    Highlights of Your Semuliki Adventure
    Sempaya Hot Springs

The Sempaya Hot Springs are Semuliki’s most famous attraction. The site features two principal springs: the male spring, known as Bintente, and the female spring, Nyasimbi.

At Nyasimbi, boiling water and steam rise dramatically from the ground, creating a fascinating display of geothermal activity. A guided visit introduces you to the springs, their surrounding forest environment, and their cultural significance to local communities.

Visitors should remain on designated paths and follow their guide’s safety instructions because the water is dangerously hot.

    Birdwatching in Semuliki Forest

Semuliki is one of Uganda’s outstanding birdwatching destinations. Its location at the eastern edge of the Congo Basin forest creates opportunities to encounter species associated with Central African ecosystems.

Keep watch for birds such as the white-crested hornbill, piping hornbill, great blue turaco and yellow-throated nicator. Sightings depend on the season, trail conditions and bird activity, but the diversity of habitats makes each walk rewarding.

For dedicated birdwatchers, the Kirumia Trail and other designated forest routes offer opportunities to explore deeper sections of the forest with an experienced guide.

    Guided Forest and Nature Walks

Experience the forest at a walking pace, listening to bird calls and observing the plants, insects, and wildlife that make this ecosystem unique.

Depending on the selected trail and conditions, you may encounter monkeys, butterflies, and other forest inhabitants. The experience is less about covering distance quickly and more about appreciating the details of this remarkable environment.

    Wildlife and Primate Encounters

Semuliki is home to several primate species, including red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. Forest elephants, buffaloes, and other mammals also inhabit the park, although many are elusive and may not be seen during a short visit.

Your guide will help you understand the forest habitat and identify wildlife signs along the way.

    The Albertine Rift Landscape

The journey to Semuliki takes you into western Uganda, where the landscape descends towards the floor of the Albertine Rift. The surrounding scenery, forested slopes and rural communities add to the experience of travelling beyond Uganda’s more familiar safari destinations.
